History was made this season by the Crusaders who have had a successful season playing against younger and higher level opponents. Seventy different players joined their ranks during the season, which demonstrates the depth of the club we love. However, this season stands out for an achievement that will be hard to better. Every father has the ambition and dream of playing in the same team as their son.

This season saw this dream realised by EIGHT players who took the field with their sons, a fantastic achievement in one season and an experience that cannot be bettered in the game. The pride, ambition and a sense of achievement was shared by the entire squad.

The proud Crusaders and their sons were:-

Martin and Sam Lakeman

Mel and Jack Barwick

Ian and James Young

Ian and Stu Young

Rich and Cameron Simpson

Tim and Ollie Dunkley

Trevor and Mark Burrell

Mike and Callam Walters

Dave and Stu Watts

As a group of players who have given years to the club, this experience is unrivalled. One day, all of us will have to take that difficult decision to walk away from the game we love. However, this season has shown us that the future of the club is safe in the hands of our "younger generation". Captain Martin Lakeman said "I've been extremely proud to lead the team. To watch fathers and sons play in the same team is a privilege and one which I've enjoyed over the past few years myself. It seems to optimise the ethos of the club being firmly rooted around family values and the community".
