Bromsgrove travelled to Nuneaton last Saturday for what should, on paper, have been a fairly evenly matched fixture with Bromsgrove lying 4th in the league and Nuneaton just 2 points behind in 5th place. Bromsgrove had narrowly beaten Nuneaton 16 - 15 at home back in November last year.

Bromsgrove won the toss and chose to play against the slope and a strong blustery wind that, against which, even the local seagulls were struggling to make headway! Early play saw both sides making handling errors but Nuneaton gradually took control in Bromsgrove's half, culminating in a try in the 15th minute from an attack through their backs for full-back Joe Wilson to score, and subsequently convert. Bromsgrove battled on against the wind but the advantage to the home side proved too much and Nuneaton scored again in the 24 minute by captain Elliot Brown.  Nuneaton's forwards, with the wind behind them, dominated the close play resulting in a push-over try in the 38th minute. Bromsgrove's re-start kick went straight into touch and from the scrum on the half way line, Nuneaton broke through Bromsgrove's line to score again, Jon Critchlow suffering  a concussion injury from a tackle in the process.

A 26 - 0 deficit faced Bromsgrove at the restart and hopes of a turn-round in fortune with the wind behind them were quickly dashed. 5 minutes into the half saw Nuneaton run through Bromsgrove's ranks to score in the corner. 10 minutes on, Nuneaton again breached Bromsgrove's defences with some excellent passing to score between the posts for their 6th try, duly converted.

Bromsgrove battled away and eventually began to push into Nuneaton's half and set up attacks, only to be let down with handling errors. The game struggled on without further score, both sides showing great determination right up to the end. Bromsgrove will admit that they were beaten by, on the day, a far better side. Less kicking away possession in the first half against the wind and winning our line-out ball more often may have reduced Nuneaton's scoring bonanza but there is little doubt that it was Nuneaton's day. It was a starting line-up debut for Bromsgrove's Colt Brad Sinclair and for replacement  Jake Guildford.
